Carving at World Masters Games

25 Apr 2017

Whaotapu were at the Cloud in downtown Auckland, busily carving a paddle as a gift to the Kansai Japan delegation - who will be hosting the next World Masters Games in 2021. They also carved a lintel featuring taniwha of Tamaki Makaurau Auckland. Whaotapu were part of the Toi Ora - a living gallery for visitors to experience some of our traditional arts including whakairo / carving, weaving and tattoo. We also had hundreds of tamariki / children colouring in wonderful pictures by Wikuki Kingi. And hundreds more experience MANA VR - a virtual reality experience of Pou Kapua. We were very happy to support the World Masters Games - and meet thousands of wonderful athletes and their friends from around the world!
